Native Stew is proud to present Mr. Samuel "Rock" Mackey with The Native Stew National Pride Award for unselfish service to the community.
Rock gets up early each morning at 4 am to clean the streets in the Farm Road area of the inner city of Nassau, Bahamas. He puts in 2 hours of work each day sweeping & picking up litter and has been doing it for the past 3 years. He cleans up the area between Quackoo St. and Lily of The Valley Corner. Rock would like to see others in the inner city do the same by simply cleaning only one block per person/persons in order to help keep the entire Farm Road area spic & span.
When asked what motivated him to do this Rock replied that 3 years ago he would get up as usual at 4 am and he would notice that a local area constable would pass by in a police van with a criminal suspect picked up during the night and heading back to police headquarters. Rock felt that this was a good thing and that the police were doing their part to keep Farm Road clean of criminals. This inspired Rock. He said to himself that if this constable could keep the area clean by picking up 'bad boys' then the least he could do is keep the area clean by picking up litter.
Congratulations Rock and keep up the good work.
