Built in the 1800s. Used by marine research scientists studying the turtles of The Bahamas. One of the scientists lived here for 3 years. There's a huge osprey nest on top. Union Creek, Inagua, Bahamas.

They say these were cut into the rock cliff by slaves many years ago. They lead down to a small rocky bay. This spot is where the slaves were brought to Nassau, Bahamas aboard ships.

The tamarind tree usually  grows very large and can be found in the bushes and yards of many homes in The Bahamas. The fruit is is encased in a thin shelled pod and hang in clusters typically six to eight inches long. It is eaten fresh or made into tamarind balls or tamarind sauce.

Took this shot through an airplane window over the Exuma Cays while flying back to Nassau from Farmer's Cay, Exuma.  Shallow waters, sandbanks and channels combine to present a dazzling display of swirling colours.

This water tower was also used as a lighthouse for Nassau officially until September 1817, but yet I still remember watching the light atop the tower in the 60s as it's high beam swept over Nassau as it turned.

Salt bed at Morton Salt Ltd., Inagua, Bahamas. Sea water is collected into salt pans ranging from 40 to 200 acres large. It takes many years for the water to dry out and leave a salt bed 12 inches thick and so hard you can drive a truck on it.

Harvesting salt from the salt pans at the Morton Salt Ltd., Inagua, Bahamas. The pure rock salt is raked up by the tractor, taken up onto the conveyors and dumped into the trucks. Then it is driven to the plant where it is washed and graded.

Here's an old fashioned traffic light.😊 We used to have these traffic officers directing traffic at many intersections in Nassau, Bahamas, before the traffic lights invaded. It was part of the charm of old Nassau. Tourists love to take pictures of this scene. Intersection of East St. and Bay St. downtown.
