Where To Now?

 Where To Now?

Oh land of sun and aquamarine seas,
Of gentle breezes, swaying palm trees.
Your beauty unmatched, a beacon of grace,
Yet shadows gather, a shameful disgrace.

Where to now, oh isle so fair,
When trust is broken beyond repair?
The badge once honored, a symbol of pride,
Now sullied by greed, where can we hide?

A uniform sworn to protect and serve,
Twists its purpose, begins to swerve.
Side by side with the shadowy trade,
A pact of corruption and honor betrayed.

Betrayal of Country
(A Poem About Treason in The Bahamas)

Beneath the sapphire skies and emerald waves,
Where whispering palms stand sentry over graves,
A nation born of struggle and of pride,
Now mourns a wound that festers deep inside.

The Bahamas, land of sun and sea,
Where freedom’s anthem sways with liberty.
Yet in the shadows, treason’s chilling hand
Has sought to poison this sacred land.

You've Made Your Bed, Now Lie In It

Beneath the heavy quilt you stitched with care,
Each thread a choice, each pattern laid bare.
The fabric woven from deeds you have sown,
The bed is yours, and yours alone.

The mattress bears the weight of fleeting greed,
Stuffed with feathers plucked from selfish need.
No gentle down, but bristles sharp as sin,
A prick for every time you let darkness in.

The sheets you spread are colored by lies,
Each stain a truth that you failed to revise.
Wrinkled and twisted, no smoothing can hide,
The marks of betrayal that linger inside.

The Redemption of Atlantica

Chapter 1: Shadows Over Atlantica

The island kingdom of Atlantica was a realm of breathtaking beauty. It was a place where rolling green hills met sapphire seas, and sun-drenched coasts brimmed with potential for prosperity. Yet, beneath the surface of its stunning landscapes lay a rot as deep as the ocean trenches. Atlantica was ruled by a cadre of corrupt leaders—self-indulgent lords and ladies who resided in their opulent palaces while their people toiled endlessly to fill the coffers of their overlords.

These rulers, known collectively as the Council of Ten, had grown fat on the labors of their subjects. Taxes were levied on every conceivable activity—fishing, farming, trade—and the price of goods had risen so steeply that only the wealthiest merchants could afford to survive comfortably. The leaders were also rumoured to be engaged in the dark undertakings of the shipment of illegal goods through their borders for a price. The Council's symbol, an open palm, had become a bitter joke among the populace: “The Council’s hand is always open—for gold, not aid.”

The heart of this oppression pulsed in the Castle of Justice, a towering structure that loomed over Atlantica’s capital city, Port Prosperity. Ironically named, the castle was no beacon of justice but a monument to tyranny. The Council held court here, issuing cruel edicts and enforcing laws designed to crush dissent. Hidden within the high towers of this imposing fortress lay the Scrolls of Command—documents detailing the Council's web of corruption, secret dealings, and dark conspiracies.

For years, the people of Atlantica endured this grim reality, their hope dimming like a flickering candle in a storm.

 Alcohol Fueled Killer

In shadows cast by lamppost lights,
A predator stalks the island nights.
His weapon can be a blade or gun,
Fueled with liquid fire, the devil’s rum.

He lifts the glass with trembling hands,
A fragile man, built on sinking sands.
The amber poison, smooth and cold,
Transforms his soul, turns flesh to bold.

With every sip, the world distorts,
Morality bends, and truth retorts.
The whispers rise, the demons call,
From within the depths of his mental sprawl.

The Modern Slave Trade in the Caribbean: A Deep Dive Into Intra-Caribbean Exploitation

Introduction

The Caribbean, with its idyllic beaches and vibrant cultures, often conjures images of paradise. However, beneath this picturesque surface, darker realities persist. Modern slavery—trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of human exploitation—continues to be a pressing issue in the region. Shockingly, some forms of slavery still occur within the Caribbean, with traffickers and criminal enterprises exploiting their own people.

Although slavery in the Caribbean has long been associated with the transatlantic slave trade of the colonial era, modern slavery in the region today has taken on more covert and complex forms. These involve sex trafficking, labor exploitation in agriculture, fishing, domestic service, and even organized crime. This article will explore the current status of modern slavery in the Caribbean, its historical context, the possibility of its eradication, and potential future scenarios.

Cocaine Doesn’t End Well

Cocaine Doesn’t End Well

In the shimmer of the city’s midnight glow,
Where neon lights flicker, fast and slow,
A devil whispers in powdered white,
Promising pleasure, promising flight.

Lines like highways carved on glass,
Inhaling a thrill too sharp, too fast.
It slides like silk through burning veins,
Chasing euphoria, masking pains.

Eyes wide open, heart in race,
A glimpse of heaven, a frantic pace.
But the bliss that rises, a fleeting dream,
Soon crashes down, torn at the seams.

Put Down Your Guns

Chalk outline of body in street.

 "The Cycle" - (SOURCE)

Put Down Your Guns

Put down your guns, oh brothers, my friends,
The cycle of bloodshed, it must reach an end.
In the islands of blue where the sun’s golden light,
Has been swallowed by shadows that steal away night.

From Nassau’s streets to the shores of Freeport,
Cries echo in alleys where lives come up short.
The mothers are weeping, their hearts full of pain,
As bullets like rain drown their hopes once again.

Oh, how did we come to this crossroad of fear?
Where peace is a stranger, and violence draws near.
In a land once so tranquil, where the waves kissed the shore,
Now the gunfire replaces the soft ocean’s roar.

 The Price of Poison

It starts so small, a whisper in the night,
A taste, a thrill, a spark that feels so right.
But poison courses through your veins so deep,
Awakening a beast that never sleeps.

You lose your compass, morals fade away,
The line between what's right and wrong turns gray.
What once was sacred, now is sold for scraps,
As honour shatters in addiction's trap.

You steal from those you love, without a care,
Your conscience fading, heavy with despair.
The man who once stood proud, now shadows creep,
Robbing innocence and joy you once would keep.

Bertram and the Square Grouper

Bertram Lowe, a middle aged fisherman in The Bahamas, was out in his dingy boat on the sea fishing when he spotted an object floating on the water. He approached it cautiously and discovered it was a bale of marijuana wrapped and tightly sealed in plastic, fresh and undamaged. A big square grouper. It must have just recently been in the sea. Probably lost overboard somehow.

Bertram was happy and afraid too, because he was sure the marijuana belonged to drug traffickers who would want it back. Nevertheless he pulled it aboard and covered it with the tarpaulin he kept onboard that he used to cover up with just in case it rained when he is out fishing.  He sped home with the surprise catch being careful not to be seen and buried it in the bushes by his home, not reporting his find to the police with the hopes that maybe he could make a lot of money from it.

Alcohol Use and Its Connection to Violence and Homicide

Introduction

Alcohol consumption is deeply ingrained in many cultures worldwide and is often associated with socialization, relaxation, and celebration. However, the negative consequences of alcohol use, particularly its connection to violence and homicide, cannot be overlooked. Alcohol's impact on behavior, cognitive functioning, and emotional regulation can lead to aggression, impulsivity, and violent behavior, posing significant risks to individuals and society.

The Psychological and Physiological Effects of Alcohol on Behavior

Alcohol affects the central nervous system by depressing its function, which impairs cognitive abilities and judgment. As alcohol consumption increases, inhibitions are lowered, and individuals may experience heightened emotional responses, such as anger and frustration.
