In spring 2020, Valencia College will be awarding scholarships for students of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) who were impacted by hurricane Dorian and wish to study in the United States.

Overall, 70 students from Grand Bahama and Abaco have either transferred or were enrolled in BTVI New Providence for the first time, since the hurricane in September.

Representatives from Valencia College recently made a presentation to BTVI students, discussing the scholarship which will cover full tuition and fee waivers for one academic year, up to 30 credits.  The waiver is renewable for each subsequent term provided that students maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Additionally, BTVI and Valencia College recently signed an articulation agreement that will allow BTVI’s Business and Information Technology Associate of Applied Science degree graduates to matriculate directly into Valencia College’s Bachelor’s degree programs, beginning August 2020.

Valencia College is located in Orlando, Florida. The college’s graduation rates - for both the Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degrees - have garnered national recognition in the United States, including the inaugural Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
