From the BBC:

"We are delighted to announce the launch of the BBC WORLD SERVICE and BRITISH COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL RADIO PLAYWRITING COMPETITION 2020

For details of how to enter, visit www.bbcworldservice.com/radioplay

A competition for people living outside of the UK to write a 53 minute radio play.
There are two first prizes. One to be won by a writer with English as a first language and one by a writer with English as a second language. Both winners will receive £2,500 and a trip to London to see their play be recorded at the BBC and to attend a prize giving ceremony. Each play will then be broadcast on BBC World Service.

This year there will also be a Special Commendation in the name of Georgi Markov for the writer of the script from the shortlist identified by the judges as showing most promise.

There will also be certificates for the best play from each of these world regions: Asia, Africa, Caribbean, The Americas, Europe, The Pacific & The Middle East.

Please note that the competition is open to anyone resident outside the UK – we welcome new writers, those with huge experience and every level in between!

For inspiration, ‘A Broken Heart in a Warzone’ by “Aziz H”, last year’s winner in the English as a second language category, will be broadcast on BBC World Service at 18.00 GMT on Saturday 26th October 2019 and then available online and to download.

And there are plenty of tips on the webpage (www.bbcworldservice.com/radioplay) along with the Competition Rules.

Please tune in, log on and send us your scripts before midnight GMT on the 31st January 2020. We look forward to reading them.

Kind regards,
David Hunter
