no issue with privatizing businesses – as that’s what they are –

Consumer Protection Commission Announces Plans to Observe Consumer Rights Week
Rights Week is being celebrated in The Bahamas from Monday, March 11 to
Friday, March 15, 2019 to the theme “Trusted Smart Products”.
The Ministry of
Labour and the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) held a press
conference to announce plans to recognize the week on Monday.
Executive Director, CPC, said World Consumer Rights Day 2019 will
highlight what consumers want and need from a “connected” world and how
important it is to put them at the heart of the development of digital
products and services.
“From smart phones
and meters to wearable fitness trackers, voice-activated assistants,
smart TV’s and smart security systems, apps usage and privacy, many of
the products we use are increasingly becoming connected by default,”
said Mr. Deveaux.

Beacon School Run to Win Dogs Day School Challenge 2019
The Beacon School
is the reigning champion of the Dog Days Half Marathon School Challenge.
The students won the challenge last year, with sponsorship support from
Freeport Ship Services and MSC Freeport (Bahamas). The school entered
20 students last year and also won a cash prize of $500 for earning the
most points during the marathon, each mile accrued by the athletes
earned the school one point.
are presently 108 students enrolled at the Beacon School, which is
Grand Bahama’s special needs education centre. This year the school’s
Special Olympic Athletes will represent the school in the Dog Days Half
Marathon. The school is also excited to note that four of their athletes
are members of the team travelling to Abu Dhabi to represent The
Bahamas in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games this month.
The Humane Society
of Grand Bahama (HSGB) held their 34th annual Dog Show on Saturday,
March 2nd, 2019. Beautiful weather and a host of gorgeous dogs combined
to make a successful and enjoyable day.
A variety of dog
breeds from large to small were represented as well as a number of cross
breeds, and of course many wonderful Royal Bahamian Potcakes. The
competition was tough as there were so many lovely dogs, but at the end
of the day Shrek, a handsome and gentle Dogue de Bordeaux, won the Best
in Show title. Shrek and his owner Derek Miller went home with the
coveted President's Trophy, along with a large bag of Purina Dog Chow
from our sponsor, and a basket full of goodies for both dog and owner.
