44 Haitians caught in Exuma chain

As Hurricane Isaias exited The Bahamas and made its journey north, 44 Haitian migrants were caught onboard a sloop in the Exuma chain on Sunday, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) confirmed.

The group, which consisted of 35 men and nine women, was found shortly after 3 p.m. 1.06 nautical miles north west of Little Hawksbill Cay.

The migrants onboard the sloop attempted to flee but were eventually caught.

The group was later turned over to the Department of Immigration, had their temperatures checked and were placed in isolation at the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.  (source)
