The Plan

This year is an unusual year.

The theatre shut its doors on March 15, 2020, two days before the initial lockdown. And we don't see how we will be back to regular functioning before 2021. Theatres and indoor performance spaces in general will be the last businesses to reopen.

But Short Tales is still going ahead!

We're pretty sure there won't be a live performance this year, but we will do something. This year, regrettably, there will be no call for directors, thanks to COVID-19—the development of new directors requires more face to face activity than we are prepared or probably permitted to engage in, but expect to see some veterans working behind the scenes. People who have been through the process before will be invited to turn their hands to the Short Tales productions this year.

The rehearsal and production of Short Tales will be adjusted to suit the COVID-19 world: more on that later.

But rest assured: The ten plays selected will be anthologized in a new book: Short Tales 2020, to be published in September. Copies will be available for order online.

The Process

Short Tales received twenty-five submissions from fifteen different authors. The plays were forwarded anonymously to a panel of judges who read them before each making a selection.

This process produced a shortlist of twelve plays which were whittled down to ten.

The plays were selected according to genre, impact, style, variety, and length.

The production of Short Tales will be adjusted to suit the COVID-19 world: more on that later.

We're excited to be doing this once again!
