Dear Readers,

TV Watchers are cutting the cord. It's a trend that began with young millennials and has since spilt over into Generation Z. Industry professions refer to this pattern of viewers as Cord Cutters, cancelling their subscriptions to multichannel subscription television services available over cable, dropping paid television channels or reducing the number of hours of subscription TV.

That's right, in the age of Youtube, Netflix, and Hulu, millions of people who once paid hefty prices for premium cable channels are abandoning the TV watching habits of yesteryear.  Gone are the days when you had to be at home at a certain time to catch your favorite show. In today's world of on-demand style TV and Android Boxes you never have to miss a show, now you can stream it to any smart device, pause it, rewind it and rewatch it at your leisure. I think its safe to say TV watchers in the 21st-century enjoy an arguably more flexible entertainment experience.

But wait...there's more

Cord Cutters have taken it a step further. Rather just being consumers of content we have also become CREATORS of content. New age creatives have literally cut out the middleman (the cable company) creating content they want to watch and making that content easily accessible. This is no less true here at home where talented Bahamian creatives have not only cut the cord and become content creators but they're also finding ways to monetize what many years ago would have only been a hobby.

One such creative is Vincent "VMAC' McDonald who has successfully launched the local online network called LiveUp TV. Every day, the network puts out fresh content, including talk shows, sitcoms and so much more. Whether or not you find something in the content that strikes your fancy, it's amazing to see young Bahamians creating new platforms to tell their stories.

By now you're probably wondering, what does a local online network have to do with 242 news? Well, it's simple. Our readers already know and love us for providing both hard news and human interest stories taking place around the country and Now we're pleased that with the help of LiveUp TV, we can add entertainment to our roster as well. Stay tuned each week for #RETNews hosted by "Rabs" who brings fun and flavour to pop culture stories both local and international! CROSSREACH
JUNE 2018 UPDATE

We successfully delivered all 50 full bags as well as a fresh loaf of bread in each. However, we do need more helpers to learn the routes and substitute when necessary.

Sorority Chapter: Freeport branch of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority very kindly donated a large amount of food supplies which was immediately used to help fill the bags for the June run. Our grateful thanks to Stephanie Collie and her sorority group.

East End delivery

Hurricane Season: The start of the season was June 1st.. Already we have significant supplies on the shelves in readiness for the possibility of a catastrophic hurricane. However, there is plenty of room for additional supplies. Nothing ever gets wasted.

Vacation Bible School: A great success but with the added benefit for Crossreach as we received a beautiful supply of canned foods for our next run, plus a lovely note from the children to be attached to each of the bags.

Coin Box & Crossreach Bin: Please keep them filled. We have more requests for people to be added to our list of recipients so Crossreach need for supplies does not diminish.
