Dear Readers,

This week the Bahamas lost a true son of the soil in the person of centenarian Sir Durward Knowles. Known for his contributions to sports, business, and philanthropy. We again offer our condolences to his family. This editorial which was written featuerd in the February 28 edition of the Nassau Guardian offers us a glimpse to the life and legend of Sir Durward Knowles.. 

PM Minnis Attends Inauguration of Cap-Haitien/Labadee Road

GB's Small Business Incentive Program proving to be successful
The success of the newly launched Grand Bahama Micro and Small Business Economic, Empowerment and Incentive Program was evident in the certification of a second group of potential entrepreneurs from the program on Monday, February 26, 2018, in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The certification of 15 new business owners and the expectation of the program's being extended to not just a third, but also a fourth group of individuals has brought to light what Minister of State for Grand Bahama, Senator Kwasi Thompson has been touting all along "that small businesses will be a big part of the economic turnaround for Grand Bahama."Read More
WSC & SUEZ Teambuilding Effort Dubbed a Success

Team building exercises have been long used as a way to provide high-impact learning, increase team skills and communications, and improve morale and productivity within companies and non-profit organizations alike. Studies have found that participants benefit from experiencing a sense of accomplishment in working as a group to complete a challenging task and learning ways to improve communication skills. Recently, employees of the Water & Sewerage Corporation and SUEZ Water Technology & Solutions - an international water & wastewater company, had the opportunity to benefit from one such exercise. The groups teamed up last Thursday in a special team building exercise which targeted the 'Sacred Space' at the Clifton Heritage Park. Read More

NEMS Receives Donation From Aidan Roger Carron Foundation
The Public Hospitals Authority's National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) received a donation of fifteen (15) fully equipped Trauma Bags donated by the Aidan Roger Carron Foundation. The presentation was made on Monday 19th February during a brief ceremony at the NEMS Base at 1st Terrace, Centreville. Accepting the donation on behalf of the PHA was PHA Chairman Julian Rolle who extended appreciation on behalf of th...e Authority saying, "These bags, stocked with essential life-saving and resuscitative equipment, represent some of the Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic's most effective tools in the field. They will help our dedicated NEMS staff to continue to provide a high standard of pre-hospital care to those facing medical emergencies." Read More
U.S. State Department Alumni Represent The Bahamas at Regional Disaster Preparedness Seminar in Trindad and Tobago

33 Youth Leaders Enrolled in STB Environmental Ambassador Program

They trek through woods and meander through gardens with cameras and notepads in hand. They explore the undersea world and get up close with snakes and birds. They are participants of one of the most sought after programs in The Bahamas, Youth Environmental Ambassadors (YEA). Sponsored by Save The Bays, the program now in its fifth year has trained more than 200 students in Grand Bahama who are learning today to appreciate the precious and often fragile resources of The Bahamas that they pledge to respect tomorrow. Kwasi Thompson says that a hopeful outlook for Grand Bahama is based not just on direct foreign investment, but on local investments by Grand Bahamians like Curtis and Glennett Fowler, owners and operators of FowlCo Marine and Logistics Management.
The new Logistics Company, which is 100 percent Bahamian-owned, held its official opening on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the facility on Grand Bahamian Way. The investment totals some $1.6 million.Read More
GHS Magic Ivy Musicians call on Acting Prime Minister
The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Works admonished members of Government High School's (GHS) Magic Ivy band to utilize opportunities at their institution to prepare them for any situation that life throws their way....
The students, representing grades 10, 11 and 12, along with Performing Arts educator, Yonell Justilien, called on Minister Bannister Monday, February 26, at the Ministry on JFK. $70 Million Luxury ONE Cable Beach Complete, Demand Exceed Expectations
Developers of ONE Cable Beach, the $70 million luxury condominium rising just west of Baha Mar, announced today that the project is now complete, the first homeowners have moved in and both sales and rentals have "exceeded expectations beyond our imagination." As a part of the "BTC Learning Everyday" initiative, Centerville Primary's Grade 3C class enjoyed a morning of laughter and entertainment last week. BTC's endorsed talent Tyrone Burrows led an engaging reading session of "The Elephant's Boast" by Susan Blackaby. The book talks about a pompous elephant overcoming his ego. and Climate Change Resilience at IDB Conclave
The Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance, K. Peter Turnquest, in his capacity as one of the Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), attending the second day of the 7th Annual Consultation Meetings with Caribbean Governors of the Bank, participated in a panel discussion led by Sir Richard Branson and IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno.
The discussions centered on climate change developments and how technology can impact climate resilience as countries contemplate rebuilding and infrastructure planning in a more sustainable way. Read More
Henfield: Bahamas taking on more leadership role in region
The Bahamas' role in the region is rapidly moving towards one of "more leadership" because of the country's ability to rapidly respond in times of natural disasters such as Hurricanes, Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon. Darren Henfield said Tuesday.

The 33rd Annual Dog Show Is Here!
Get your dogs ready to strut their stuff at the Humane Society of Grand Bahama's annual dog show Saturday, March 3rd!
Don't have a dog? Come in and choose a shelter dog to show off for the day! Or just come out and enjoy the big variety of beautiful dogs, from tiny to giant, from purebred to mixed breed to our amazing Royal Bahamian Potcakes. There will be plenty to do in between events for adults and kids alike.
There will be a Chinese Raffle with some great prizes, including a special raffle for a two night stay at the fabulous Hilton Palm Beach Airport Hotel!  You can quench your thirst and get something tasty to eat at the grill or the bake sale.  We will also have a small flea market tent with some choice items from our Second Chance Secondhand Shop.  There will be fun activities for kids, and of course we welcome everyone to tour our shelter.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids over two. Entering your dog is $10 per group or category entered.  You can sign your dogs up on the day (please try to sign up at least 30 minutes prior to your event), or any day this week at the shelter.
