Othello: Shakespeare's tragedy about the Moor of Venice

Small Axe: a new play by Nicolette Bethel about a prime minister, a civil servant, and the woman who comes between them

Othello is looking for 5 men:

Brabantio: Desdemona’s father, a somewhat blustering and self-important Venetian senator. As a friend of Othello, Brabantio feels betrayed when the general marries his daughter in secret.

Duke of Venice: The official authority in Venice, the duke has great respect for Othello as a public and military servant. His primary role within the play is to make Othello tell his story of how he wooed Desdemona, and then to send Othello to Cyprus.

Montano: The governor of Cyprus before Othello.

Lodovico: One of Brabantio’s kinsmen, Lodovico acts as a messenger from Venice to Cyprus. He arrives in Cyprus with letters announcing that Cassio is to replace Othello as governor.

Graziano: Brabantio’s kinsman who accompanies Lodovico to Cyprus.

Men auditioning for Othello are encouraged to prepare a classical piece - Cassius, Iago or Hamlet

Small Axe is looking for 2 men and 1 woman:

Mallory King: the Prime Minister. Both brilliant and shrewd, but not a very nice man. He is planning how to save his nation and will stop at nothing in the process.
Age: late 40s-mid 50s

Henry James: The Director of Cultural Affairs. Brilliant, but naive. An idealist and a career civil servant, he is fighting for reparations for slavery. He's Mallory King's cousin, but that doesn't mean that he gets special treatment. Or does it?
Age: late 40s-mid 50s

Delilah Lockhart: Mallory King's lover and political operative. She's sent to work with Henry James to be his deputy director of cultural affairs ... and to be King's spy. But not every scheme works out as it is intended.
Age: 30s

People auditioning for Small Axe are encouraged to prepare a contemporary piece
