Caribbean male model gets recruited by US agency

By Arthia Nixon, The Ambassador Agency

(Chicago, Illinois)… Just a year after his runway debut, Caribbean-based model Kenneth Kerr has signed with Blake Martin’s Distinct Model Management. Kerr, who is a native of Freeport, Bahamas was recruited during the first round of presentations, an honor for a model, comparable with being selected in the first draft of a professional sports team.

“Kenneth is very much in demand even after I explain that he is unavailable or already booked,” says former model, mentor and manager Blake Martin. “Him being based in The Bahamas is not an issue for some of the designers who saw him at Chicago Men’s Fashion week. He is truly a Chicago favorite. I get calls often. Many designers want to work with him.”

Martin revealed that Kerr is already booked for next year’s Men’s Fashion Week and has a major project on the horizon in Miami. Kerr is the first model from the Caribbean to work with Martin who has talent based in London, Atlanta, New York, Miami, Detroit, Dallas and Chicago.

A former runway model himself, Martin himself was an instructor for America’s Next Top Model who has worked with many celebrities including Lady Gaga, Victoria’s Secret angel Sessilie Lopez and Will Smith.

“I am very confident with Kenneth,” he said of his newest protégé. “He has already booked with Andrew Christian, 2xist, Noral Apparel, Ray Vincente, and Llewellyn. I wasn’t aware that he was from The Bahamas when I met him in Illinois even though he knew a bit about me. I just knew after seeing him work that I wanted to work with him. He left an impression and he’s great for both print and the runway. I also like that he has a workable personality, he’s very determined and I look forward to seeing someone like that succeed. He also exemplifies fitness and health.”

Even though Kerr has ‘made it big’ by Caribbean standards and snagged a US-based agency, he still wants to focus on things local. He admitted that he plans to participate in Manhunt Bahamas because he wants to use his growing celebrity as a way to bring awareness to his country while spreading his message of healthy living.

Kerr’s social media posts are a testament to his transformation from high school dud to fitness fanatic stud. His followers join him at 4:30am to work out in the gym or ask him to share his health plans and homemade recipes that are now a part of his regiment.

“I just got my personal trainer certificate from the American Council on Exercise and I am excited about that,” he revealed. “Getting signed all well and good but I still feel that Manhunt Bahamas is a great platform for me. I’ve excelled internationally with Men's Fashion Week Chicago but there nothing like winning the respect and admiration of your countrymen. I feel I can be a good ambassador for the country as model given my experience and Manhunt can do just that for me. Other than that, I am excited to be with Blake Martin. In fact, I’m honored because I see him as both a mentor and a manager and every opportunity is to be embraced.”
