The Heart Ball Committee gets set for fund raising activities;
“Save a Little Heart…Embrace The Opportunity!”

Against a seemingly serene back drop of clear blue skies, coconut trees, and a water stream The Heart Ball Committee took a moment away from a very busy meeting to encourage others to save a child’s heart. The Heart Ball Committee, consist of persons who are not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside. They are a group of dedicated, hardworking volunteers, from varying backgrounds, on a mission to save a child’s heart; they embrace the opportunity and wish to encourage others to do so.

According to Coretta Owen, Heart Ball Committee co-chair, “I am very excited about all the events that are expected to unfold and we welcome new sponsors and donors. Additionally, we encourage the general public to get involved and help to save a child’s life today. These children are the future of our nation and we need to help them each step of the way, whenever and however possible.

We have lots of surprises and prizes in our upcoming fundraising events. We ask the public to get involved at any or all of the fundraising activities. From the funds raised 98% of each dollar helps to make a difference in a child’s life and also helps to alleviate the stress that families incur when a child is ill”.

The Heart Ball Committee is the fund raising arm of The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation, commonly referred to as The Heart Foundation. The Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that was established in 1961 by Lady Evelyn Sassoon. It was to assist persons in The Bahamas who could not afford heart care. To date the Foundation primarily assists children who are affected by some heart condition. The Heart Foundation gives support and understanding to parents and families for heart care, whether in hospitals in The Bahamas or abroad.

Heart care, no matter what form it takes, is not cheap, especially surgeries. Yet, The Heart Foundation strives to help as many children as they can and not turn anyone away. Additionally, in an effort to encourage and prevent the adults in The Bahamas from developing heart disease, The Heart Foundation works in conjunction with The Bahamas Heart Association to educate and inform individuals about heart care and heart healthy lifestyles.

The major fundraisers of The Heart Ball Committee are The Annual Tea Party & Fashion Show and The Annual Heart Ball. The Annual Tea Party & Fashion Show is scheduled for November 18, 2012 at the Government House and The Annual Heart Ball is scheduled for February 16, 2013 at the Sheraton Hotel, Cable Beach. This year, it is anticipated and desired that new sponsors will assist with fundraising, particularly during Christmas time. The funds raised from these events will help to repair children’s hearts. It will put a smile not only on the children’s faces, but also their families.

Other fundraising activities that benefit The Heart Foundation include: the sale of heart month pins, The Heart Association’s Fun Run Walk in February and benefit performances in exchange for a donation. The Heart Foundation accepts gifts, memorial donations and tax-deductible donations. No amount is ever too small. The Foundation invites individuals and organizations to lend their support. Just as heart disease does not discriminate, these events and activities do not discriminate. All are welcome to participate.

As a non-profit organization, The Heart Foundation relies heavily on the generosity of others to meet their goals and encourage persons in The Bahamas to lend their support, especially in these tough economic times.
