Bahamian Designer showcased at International Fashion Week

Minka Swimwear Fashions by Bahamian Designer a hit at Miami Beach International Fashion Week

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (March 23, 2012) - The Islands of The Bahamas is known for its beautiful beaches and now will be known also for an outstanding line of swim wear fashions that have been designed by a Bahamian and were recently featured at the Miami Beach International Fashion Week, swim wear showcase.

The new line of swim wear from Minka Fashions, are the designs of Bahamian, Latoya Moxey, who was happy at the overwhelming response and support for her line which she described as unique, appealing, comfortable, sexy and affordable. The brilliant whites, bright blues and electrifying fuchsia, clean cut lines of Moxey ‘s designs hit the runway of the fashion swimwear showcase to a packed audience of viewers, reporters and cameramen and was well received by all. Among those in attendance was Miss Bahamas Universe Anastagia Pierre , and South Florida based Bahamas Consul General, Ms. Rhoda Jackson.

The Miami Beach International Fashion Week featured fashions from around the world. The Swimwear Designer Showcase featured designers, Emmanouela Iliaki from Greece, Zella Machado from the USA, Pais del Sol from Ecuador, De Lancret from Brazil/USA and Minka by Maven from the Bahamas.

The Bahamian designer shared following the show that her designs, on the runway had represented a fusion between a Grecian inspired concept and a bit of “Bond Girl” from the 1970’s with the “V” cuts and flirty skirts. “We wanted to stay true to our signature which is all about clean lines and femininity,” she said, noting that although there was some of the sultry look there was nothing “risque.”

Minka’s line that was unveiled at the show, the 2012/2013 collection, will be available in luxury boutiques both in The Bahamas and the U.S. According to Moxey, she will be shopping the line at upscale boutiques in Nassau and The Bahamas, such as Coles of Nassau, Splash Dance and even boutiques at the Atlantis Resort. She said too that already she have been invited to visit with several boutiques in the Miami Beach area regarding providing quantities for them. The 2012/13 Minka swim wear line will also be featured at the upcoming Islands of the World Fashion showcase in The Bahamas.

The designer said that participating in the Miami Beach International Fashion Week has opened the door for her to present her line in other major Fashion Shows including the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week which is the number one swim wear Fashion week in the world. She noted that although the Mercedes Benz Fashion week - which takes place annually in July - is very competitive, Minka now has a a portfolio that will make it a strong candidate for this event. "Participation in this show, will be greatly beneficial in getting the line into the most exclusive boutiques internationally."

Currently employed full time as a marketing manager of a Nassau Resort, Mrs. Moxey credits her success in the Fashion design business to her many supporters including her number one supporter her husband, Osborne Moxey and sponsors such as Sigma Management.
